Mondoñedo is within the Camino del Norte to Santiago de Compostela recently included in the UNESCO Heritage.
D. Álvaro Cunqueiro, the most illustrious man of letters from Mondoñedo, used to say that Mondoñedo was rich in bread, water and Latin. And of course he was right, because this is a municipality with a great historical and cultural heritage, with great natural wealth and where gastronomy also plays an important role.
It has an impressive Historic Center, the most outstanding monument is its Basilica Cathedral of La Asunción, which is, next to the North Road to Santiago.
Next to this, buildings of great historical and monumental interest should also be mentioned, such as the Episcopal Palace and the Royal Council Seminary of Santa Catalina, among others.
In the gastronomic field, the local vegetable garden or the meats raised in the area have superior quality, but the star product is the famous Mondoñedo Tart. An incredible dessert based on puff pastry, sponge cake, angel hair and almonds.
